Wishful Dreams

Imagined I was peering down a dark alley
Held my laptop in both hands
Looking for the trajectory
Like a pool player assessing the table
Shadowy gutters on my left and my right
Ridges in between
If I let loose how far would it fly
Iridescent images appeared then disappeared
Text messages hovered
They were taunting me
Saying throw it throw it
What approach should be used
Pool player, skeet shooter, or bowler
Walked back and forth balancing the laptop
Getting a feel for the possible point strike
Suddenly screaming here it comes
Flung the machine with all my strength
Sending it straight down the middle
The laptop rotated as it traversed the alley
Iridescent images appeared beneath it
Following it like the stars in the Milky Way
Or perhaps like the chain of lost souls
Attached to Marley’s ghost
I thought spirits of software past perhaps
As the machine faltered losing altitude
The iridescent images surrounded it
Peering into the dark obscurity
I could no longer see my machine
It had been absorbed and I was finally free
